What type of materials can be anaerobically digested?

By definition, anything that is biodegradable or all organic matter can be digested. But not all organic matter is alike. Material that has a lot of Lignin in it or the woody mater found in trees and bushes are much harder for the anaerobic bacteria to break down then that found in the softer material like fruit, leaves, and grass. Also, most waste streams that are found in food processing waste, animal waste, animal byproducts, and most human waste streams as well. As long as the material is relatively soft and organic it can probably be digested.

The difference is how much energy can be produced from each stream. An energy crop or grass will produce significantly more energy than something that has already run through an animal or human. Also, Fats, Oils, and Gasses (FOGS) are powerhouses when it comes to gas production in Digester plants.
